FIGHTING CULLAWAYS

“Fighting Cullaways” reflects a renewed attitude
towards nostalgia. “Cullaways” are the memories
that fade unconsciously; by painting them, I fight
their quiet disappearance. Cherishing mundane
family dinners, I immortalize its brevity through
loose brush strokes, disappearing details and
dynamic movements; The selective omission of
objects reflects how our brain constantly culls
details of memories, leaving only a vague impression
of the event. This painting reminds me to be more
intentional with even the most daily rituals in my
life–after all, they will eventually become memories.
Nostalgia no longer becomes a longing for the past,
but appreciation for moments I’ve truly lived.
